You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. Lazy dazy

So I took the day off today and it has been wonderful. Last night was Yvonne's bachelorette party and we all rode around in a big limo to Glenwood where we danced the night away. It was a fun girls night. I haven't done that in a long time. So today I slept in and just had a really nice me day. Nothing fancy, just relaxing. I have been so up and down lately that it was nice to just be here and rest.

I had a really great talk with my dad on the phone and then later at dinner. It has been a while since I really felt like he understood where I was really coming from. Having a Pastor for a dad has its advantages and disadvantages, as i am sure you can imagine. Sometimes I need a dad and he is the pastor...and sometimes I need a pastor and he is the overprotective dad. Today he was the perfect mix of both. He really helped me understand some things that I have been dealing with. I asked him if he could see a change in me in recent months and he said yes and that he could tell I was growing in different areas. That really meant alot to me because I have always felt like the odd man out in my family...the one who screws up, even though he never made me feel that way. Later we decided to go see Chicken Little and had dinner. It was the best date I have had in a while :-) I am really so thankful for him. I know that I take his support for granted and many many people do not have that luxury. It really makes me appreciate him. So, thanks dad. I love you.

We talked alot about family. Not just in the literal sense, but in general. If you are reading this, then you are my family. Even if I don't talk to you much or we haven't always gotten along, family is family. I have learned, am learning, or will learn from you and hopefully you from me. I am sorry when I hurt you and will forgive you when you hurt me.

I guess I am just in a really good mood right now. I have felt pretty empty at times lately, and at the moment at least, I see good things and know that everything works itself out eventually. Even if the outcome is 100% different than what I thought I wanted. It's kinda funny how things work that way. I still have no clue about my future, but I am starting to see that the journey is pretty cool in itself.

HAHA

OK...so I had some WEIRD dreams last night. I just don't even know what to say about them...but to laugh.

~My dad and I snuck into the Cinderella's castle and caught part of the Lion King live on stage as they were practicing...we almost got busted but thankfully escaped unscathed.

~I tried again on my own but got chasedby some sort of secret service.

~Then I was at some sort of retreat and everyone had to dress up as animals. I was a big fuzzy chewbacca and again the game was chase. I was sliding down these big foresty hills by the host of this crazy retreat and I was the first to be captured. But only after sliding down hills and swinging through trees for a good amount of time.

~ I guess I went back to the retreat lodge because now me and some guy were sitting at some kind of mexican bar and I tried to order buffalo chicken but they didn't know what it was. I think I also tried to order a dirty martini....again, I had to explain what that was. I rememeber speaking to them in Spanish and they managed to pull it off. However my drink ended up being $20 dollars, which brought the bill to over $100. So we had to come up with the money and ended up going in the "back room" where we had to talk to the big boss. We managed to get out of trouble.

~There was another one with alot of snow...I can't remember anything else but that.

I swear I am not making this up.

Time for work. haha.

Holdin it down

I had a great time in Atlanta with Joe and Carrie and Lee. The weekend can be summed up in 3 words really: food, alcohol and sleep. We went to the UGA game in Athens on Saturday. I did not realize that this would mean waking up at 5:30am to get there in time to tailgate for the 12.30 game, but whatever I was up for it. We walked around downtown for a while and hung out in the main square relaxing. Carrie's husband Lee is a great guy, and I will affectionately call him...."opinionated". Walking back from lunch, we observed some guy in khakis, pumas and a tshirt stretching with one leg up on a tree:

Me: wow look at that guy stretching, weird.
Lee: Man, what a douchebag. I mean look at what he is wearing with those shoes and that little tshirt. Nothing says douchebag more than a medium shirt.
Me: haha yeah I guess..
Lee: Dammit I hate a medium.

We had a fun time at the game and ended up getting excellent seats about 20 rows up on the 30th yardline. UGA won, which everyone was happy about. Then, Saturday night, we went out for sushi in Buckhead. I had a dragon roll, it was SO yummy! Then we went a few more places in Buckhead and walked around, went dancing and just had an all around good time. Joe and I got all caught up on our lives and all that good stuff. It's really nice to have a friend that is supportive of my decisions simply because they trust me to know what I need and to let it happen and vice-versa. It was a really nice time.

Funny thing is, I wanted to get away so bad, but I was really ready to come home. On the way back I stopped in Charlotte for dinner with my 2 sisters and my niece Aly. It was so good to see them and catch up and just hang out. Basically, this weekend I realized I had a lot to come home to. I love Raleigh and my friends here and even my job for the most part. I feel like I got just what I needed and I am ready to face another week. And that is a great feeling.

~I found out I have paid vacation days now. YAY.

~I ate lunch at Golden Corral with mom. I am pretty sure I have already expressed how this is a very bad idea in the middle of a workday.

~I almost fell asleep at my desk.

~2 more hours and I am home free for a long weekend~!

oh sleepy sleepy

Well as opposed to last weekend when I pretty much hibernated for 3 days, this weekend I had a great time with friends. I didn't get much sleep on Friday or Saturday nights but last night I slept really well and yet I am SO tired today at work.

At the last minute I got tickets to the State/Clemson game on Thursday night so I went to that with Katie and Hilary and David and all the crazy gang. We left at half-time and went back out to the tailgate where we ate the best food ever (as always) ...

Friday night we had a fun time playing poker at my house (I went out first this time...sad day.)

Saturday night was the usual shenanigans at the boys' house and I fell down the hill. I hurt my shoulder and my knee and am limping around the office a bit. I finally watched Hitchiker's Guide on Sunday and since I had never read the books, I had no idea what to expect. I enjoyed it though and all its craziness.

Last night I went to a cookout for the music people of Vintage and I had a really nice time getting to know some of the people that I usually just see in passing.

Overall it was a lovely weekend with some really great people. I feel great :-)

A few crazy thoughts

Well, tomorrow I am meeting with a career counsellor to try and figure out what I want to do with my life now that I am staying in Raleigh. I have a few ideas, one of which is actually going BACK to school to finish my Spanish degree. I don't know if I want to do that, but if I do, I feel like it would be better to do it soon while I still have a hold of the language. UGH. The idea of being back in school does NOT thrill me. But maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I am talking all one subject and it's just a few classes....we'll see. The upside is that my GPA in Spanish is resume worthy so that would be a plus...who knows...

In other news, it is still raining. I case you missed it.

And, I am having a nice time talking to old friends and new. Refreshing really. :-)

EDIT~~~ I really like the word Phoenix.

Well well well...

I had a goooood dinner. I will indeed sleep like a baby tonight.

My boss went on a rampage today, yelling about everyone behind their backs and not saying a word when they were around. At least he was smart enough to know who would walk out. But really, my job is a joke. I need to have a real career with real professionals. I am beginning to wonder if they exist.

I am ready for a trip. I hope Atlanta works out. It's time to get the hell outta dodge. Driving long distances always puts me at ease. I don't even listen to music all that much. I just enjoy the silence.

I opened my windows today. It's nice.

There are some people that I really miss right now. If I could hang out with anyone at the moment it would be Todd Sesto. He was my brother in law's best friend and a great friend of the family, we even dated for a short time until the long distance got the best of us. In Florida we would all go watch beach volleyball and play cards or go to Wet and Wild. We lost touch a couple years ago and last I knew he had finally conquered cancer and his bachelor's degree. I hope you are having an awesome life, whitter, wherever you are. I also really miss Shaughnessey and Kelsey from the ol Florida gang. We talk more often but nothing has ever been quite the same since the divorce. Speaking of which, I got an email from my ex-father-in-law the other day. He is a ginourmous blacksmithing maniac and and even bigger teddy bear. It looks like he has been commissioned by the military for some blacksmith training over in Iraq. He seems really excited about it. As much any man who makes knives for a living could be. Here is one example

title or description

I love the change of seasons. That is something you really don't get in Florida and there is something so necessary and theraputic about it to me. It's like just when everything goes to crap and you feel like you can't breathe anymore, there is a cool breeze in the fall or a warm glow in the spring that brings a whole new light to things. It's refreshing really. And I am so thankful that I have been created with the ability to appreciate the beauty around me. I think the quote below fits in with the idea of seasons.

"Don't ever give up, because little by little you are changing. The more you change your mind for the better, the more your life will also change for the better. When you begin to see God's good plan for you in your thinking, you will begin to walk in it."
~Battlefield of the Mind (Meyer)

In my mind, there are seasons, each one in its own timing and right for that time. But there is another season coming soon and I can't just hit pause where I am...because change is on the way.

Weekend Update

Well I have survived another end of the month at my friendly law firm and my first legacy con. The latter was a weekend full of fun and games with many old and new faces that I met through Jon. They know eachother due to gaming, but I was just in it for the fun. There were an unprecedented amount of redheads there, and I had fun tagging along. I am still getting used to the hair...I had a great time though. Meckola reminds me so much of my cousin Nate that I get homesick for Florida. It's perfect. It must be the circle of friends. It's so welcoming!!! I could go on about all the shenanigans, but the truth is, most of you that read this were probably there.

Regardless, thanks for the good times everyone. :-)

I am still a little heartbroken that I got the third place dollar. But it was worth it to hang out with Mexican Jim and his lovely wife. And I was pretty stoked that Tina and I held it down for the Raleigh crew. LADIES WHAT WHAT.

Church was great today. Tyler talked about peace. I really needed to hear it. Lately it seems like everything I hear and read confirms the direction that I am taking right now. That isn't to say I am doing everything right. But I think I am pretty close to the track at least.

I have listened to Frail by Jars of Clay about 45 times in the past week, thank you Matt S. The instrumental part just strikes a chord in me (aha) I think I may try to learn it on ye olde guitar. I really need to pick that up again.

Otherwise, I am hangin in there. For all the pray'ers, please keep em coming. I can never get enough. Have a great week!

WOW. I am tired. They forget to tell you that once you get a job in the real world, you can't really stay up all night anymore. Thank God for coffee.

I dyed my hair. It's red and I like it.

After another very long talk with Johnny last night (hence the tired thing) I feel like I am finally in a place to let it all go. He knows that I wish him well and want the best, but we both agree that things are better left in the past. I feel reasonably fine about that today. It's weird.

Damn a client just got really mad at my boss. Then my boss blamed me for it in front of the client even though it was totally his fault. Awesome. But then he realized it and took it back. But still.

I am going to Atlanta in a couple weeks to visit my friend Joe. Should be fun. We are going to the UGA game. I haven't had a road trip in a while. I am looking forward to the drive.

Ok I think that's enough rambling. Have a great day!

Well after a brief hiatus, my internet is back up and running and so am I. I had a wonderfully girly day getting beautiful...I had a manicure/pedicure and I think tomorrow I will do a wash-in hair color (too expensive for a salon this time)...maybe like a chestnut brown...we'll see how i feel....actually maybe I will do it now. hmmm....

I went to Third Place for coffee with Kim this morning for some much needed catching up. Jacob is so grown up!!! He was just talking and talking! "Miss Molly gave me a tootsie pop! Do you like tootsie pops? Andrea do you like tootsie pops?!?!" So cute and fun. Everyone is growing up. It's nuts.

I saw Leeanne today! She was in town with her fiance and we watched the game at Sammy's. We won't talk about the game. BUT it was great to see Leeanne and BJ. She loves her new job and Winston Salem and says it's high time I visit her. So that little road trip will be in the works. OH and Matt, she said that BJ has had a terrible time finding a job there, so no it isn't just you. :-)

Other than that it was a great day, just lazy and nice. I feel like I had so much more to say, but how about I just say that I am happy and at peace. That is enough for me.

I am looking forward to tomorrow, I will be singing at both services at Vintage. The more I do it, the more I love it. Especially now that Matt S. has split us into 3 specific bands. That means we learn eachother and are much more comfortable to be creative because we know how everyone plays and reacts to different things. It has become very fulfilling. So yay!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

EDIT~~ one day i will get married, and when I do, Ben Folds "The Luckiest" will be played.

Oh happy day. It's Thursday and that means it's almost Friday. This makes me happy. This week I have not had a whole lot of sleep, which makes for a very unmotivated Andrea. HOWEVER, life is good and even though I don't always get what I want, I know that life could be a whole lot worse (as evidenced by my coworker who came in witha story about her friends getting busted by the SWAT team last night)

So in terms of being arrested, I am doing pretty great. I have never been in handcuffs and the only time I got fingerprinted was when I forgot my license and had a traffic ticket. So I suppose there is always something to be thankful for :-)

This weekend I plan to relax and lay low. Please feel free to join me. I want to go to the movies...and eat out at least once. Lofty goals I have ...heehee.

It's so easy to concentrate on the negative things, but I am trying to make a change and be thankful. What are you thankful for?

Last night I had the first migraine headache of my life. I pray it will be the last. I never knew or understood what it was like, but my sister would talk about them like the plague. I was awake and in pain until 5am when I finally managed to get my hands on a sinutab (the only medicine in my house) and took a 2nd hot bath. My neck felt like it was being physically twisted until the pressure in my head was unbearable. I tried every sleeping position I could think of until I was unsure if the misery was from the pain or the insanity of insomnia. This cannot happen again.

It's almost noon and I am only now going to work.

I don't know about you, but I am ready for the fun again.

Scary event of the week...I had a knock on my door from a strange man last night at about 11pm....I didn't answer...then around 11:30 I had 3 calls from a restricted number. The first 2 times I answered and no one was there. The 3rd time I let it ring. No message. Just when I got to sleep around 12:30 my power went off...I was trembling! I have never been so scared in my own apartment. It was crazy. The power came back on and I slept the rest of the night without event. Today my neck is killing me. Probably from being so tense. Sleep Shmeep

So today I had to be up at 7am to sing at church. We have moved to 2 services and I had to be there for both of them, so last night, I had the bright idea of coming home at a respectable hour (i.e. 1am) to get some sleep in before the big day. I knew I needed to really prepare for today because the songlist was particularly vocal. So I came home and passed out for a good 2 hours, only to wake up at 3am and be WIDE awake until 5:30. GRR! I went to church and then came home and slept for the better part of 6 hours. NOW I ASK YOU, who thinks I will sleep at all tonight??

I know I don't.

Overall I had a good weekend. Lazy, fanciful and fun. Susy turned 30. Kristy had her baby, and Joe was drunk by 10am on a Saturday morning (as evidenced by his phone call from the UGA tailgating lot). Personally, I got a lot of errands and a lot of nothing else accomplished this weekend. It was lovely. knitting update: 38 rows down, 42 to go...then I do the handles. WEEEE!

Went to beer pong last night. M0nky got a dart in the thigh, the comedic highlight of the evening and I got to see Chris Meckola for the first time in weeks. HYSTERICS. We talked ALIAS for a while. I hope we can get an ALIAS night started up for us addicts. Good times. I also met Jon's sister Rachel right before I had to leave. She seemed really nice, despite the fact that she got to go to Coldplay and I didn't.

I love my friends. It can't be said enough. I love them because they are all different and amazing. I have learned so much from them that I bet they don't even know. It makes me smile.

Feel free to give me suggestions for things to do tonight whilst I am not sleeping.

Have a great week!!!

wow it's after midnight

Who knew knitting could be so much fun!?! Last night I went to Cup a Joe with Johnny, just like the old days. It was a good time. He had spanish homework and I had knitting to do. I worked on it for 2 hours and the whole time I was doing it inside out (i.e. wrong). We had a good laugh and I decided to move on and try my luck at the Spanish. Hopefully, he ended up better off than I did. Today on my lunch break and during music practice I was un-doing what I had done. That part wasn't the greatest, BUT when I figured out where it all went wrong and started over, it was GAME ON. 20 rows down....60 to go. I love it!! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Work has been better lately. Actually, everything has been better lately. I think I am on the upswing. Yay. But as for work, I am really enjoying being there all day. Starting to get in that groove I guess. And the money is always a plus. More hours=yay payday!

I went to Community night at Vintage last night also. This time they were talking about their hopes for the future of the church and what we can do to help the community. Always puts things into perspective when I start thinking about other people and what I can do to help. Music tonight was fun. I brought the knitting and learned that yes, I can knit and sing at the same time. Fabulous. We are doing a Stevie Wonder song this sunday. Everyone is pretty excited about it. I know I am.

Finally, I need to NEED to go to the chiropractor still. I actually MADE an appointment for next week and they called me back to say, whoops, they don't take my insurance anymore. So it's back to the drawing board. Anyone have Wellpath?? Seriously, I need to get this taken care of. NO man will ever love me if I sound like a bowl of rice krispies for the rest of my life.

I believe that is all. Have a wonderful night!

YES

It has been a good weekend. I spent some quality time with some quality people all weekend long. Friday I stayed at my folks in Wake Forest. They are glad I didn't move to New York. I am glad I can eat their food and do my laundry for free.

Saturday was poker madness at my apartment. I lost $4. I never should have been allowed to buy in to that second game ;-). Big Thomas looks like Buddy the elf in my apartment. Next time you see him, tell him that you know Santa and smiling is your favorite. By the way, random guy that showed up outside, thanks for the Red Stripe. It was a good time, we'll do it again soon. No sunglasses next time though.

Yesterday was fun. I slept in for the first time in forever and then out of the blue, Hilary called me with an extra ticket to the State game! We got out there at about 3:30 so it was a long but fun day. Everett's mom introduced herself to me twice. David almost got in a fight with some dad right in front of the kids and we talked to Julius Hodge. I snapped a pic on my cell phone but it didn't save. I was sad about that for a couple minutes..then I remembered that we just got the first TD of the game and all was well. Even though we lost it was a great time. If you ever get bored, just hang out with those Elkin kids. You never know what will happen next. 2 trips to Taco bell, a return visit to the fairgrounds to rescue the remaining drunks and a stop at the gas station for Ev just about wore me out so I came home and had the best night's sleep ever.

Oh and I learned how to knit. It is fun and I am good at it. Look for a new fall line next year.

I am going to 5 star. It will happen and you can't stop me.

I think that's about it. I really needed a good weekend and a relaxing time with awesome people. Now there's just a 4 day week and another weekend! wooo! Have a great day!

Well it is Friday and I don't think I have ever been so ready for a 3 day weekend. I think I am gonna open up the house for some poker on Saturday night...maybe 9.30 or 10ish so let me know if you want to come so I know how many to plan for. :-)

Otherwise this week has been so busy. End of the month pretty much kept me either at work or sleeping off the stress. I did have a lovely dinner at Dos Taquitos last night on Creedmoor....it may just be my new favorite mexican restaurant.

I have recieved so many emails and calls about people in the hurricane. I don't know what it is, but I feel so disassociated with the whole situation. I can't even watch the news about it. In other situations, I have followed every word, but for some reason, this time it's not like that. I feel kindof bad about it, or like I should be sharing in the country's devastation, but I am just completely numb to the whole thing. Strange.

I think that is about it for the updates. I hope everyone is doing well. I knowI haven't talked to many of you in a while. But it's anew month with lots to offer :-) Who know what will happen next...

IT'S A GOOD DAY.

Long work days can either take everything out of you or give you a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Today it is the latter. I feel good and I like it.

NASCAR

Seriously, what is the big deal? Even people who profess to hate it are somehow drawn to this "sport" as to a train wreck. Last week, I was at a birthday party for one of my favorite 3 year olds ever, and as one of the only people without a husband or children of my own, I was enjoying the observation of all the different families and friends that were present. It was a fun time and perhaps the most interesting part was when Jacob opened his presents. Everyone was oooh-ing and aaaah-ing and then it happened. Jacob got a quality replica of a nascar car. The car made the rounds more than anything else at that party as every dad quietly found his way across the room to 'inspect' the goods. It was fascinating to watch men of all ages be mesmerized by this toy. I learned 2 things that day, 1)you can never really take the boy out of the man, and 2)Nascar is a force to be reckoned with.

I wish I could make everyone happy. I have tried to be the best person that I can, but it just comes down to the fact that I can't please everyone and really I shouldn't have to.

I am sorry. I am only one person.

I need you

Does anyone know of back stretches or anything to help back pain? I have been in constant and increasing pain for about a week...last night I "slept" with a book under the middle of my back. I can't afford a chiropractor at the moment...so any homeopathic suggestions would be greatly welcomed and appreciated!!

Today has been freakin crazy at work. Seems like the phones are ringing off the hook. Kindof annoying. Other than that things are good. I think it's going to be a good week. I had a good, relaxing weekend so that is always nice.

Hope everyone is doing well :-)

Thanks

I am so genuinely thankful right now. I'm almost overwhelmed. There isn't one specific thing really, but the culmination of events that have happened in my life and even the people that surround me at the moment have all had a significant impact on the way I live. I can't say that it has been easy a lot of the time, but I am so thankful that I can learn from everything around me. I want to really know people and be truthful about my life. I think that is how you really learn. I have so many people I can be real with and 'do life' with. It amazes me that one person can have so many real true friends. I get lonely, a lot actually and I think man, if only it was this way or that way, THEN I would be happy. But, I wouldn't trade a single thing I have gone through for the greener grass. It's too important.

I saw Arthur Burt speak tonight. What a truly inspiring and wonderful man. At 93, he was jumping and laughing and speaking the most simplistic, yet most influential words I have heard in years. He has 9 children and 52 grandchildren!!! Can you even imagine? My dad has known him since the 60's and there are so many things about Arthur that my dad has imitated. To me, that is incredible. To see my dad, someone who you think has it all together, watching and learning from someone he respects. I looked across the room and saw my dad just awed by this ordinary man. He was digesting every word. That is what I want to be. I want to be the kind of person who recognizes wisdom and absorbs it. I am so glad I went. I really can't express what I am feeling right now. I am just so grateful.

Arthur tells a lot of stories in his messages, and tonight he talked about an eagle who was living among chickens instead of soaring majestically above. We choose where we are, but not what we are meant for. We are meant to be eagles. Waiting for the wind, instead of working and flapping our wings. But, he said you have to choose it. "Choice is a tremendous motive and takes you beyond will". We are meant to be eagles.

I am so glad that I have a place to hear this stuff. It is so easy to get sad and complain about everything. But it's time to start encouraging eachother. I have the most amazing friends and family that anyone could hope for and you're gonna hear it. :-)
