Linda and Harriett: Just Because Campaign

A few days ago I requested a free card from a letterpress company called Linda and Harriett. They are doing a lovely little campaign to honor the owner's mother who was famous for her "just because" gestures.

Honestly, I forgot I had done this until I received the card in the mail today. The deal is, they will send you a free card if you agree to write a "just because" note and mail it out.

I have to say that this idea just warms my heart! I have ALWAYS loved getting snail mail, and even with the advent of the internet and blogging and texting, I still love seeing a personal note in my mailbox. The card they sent me is beautiful and I can't wait to mail it out! I am always looking for great blank cards so they are going right into my bookmarks.

Just another example of something simple we can all do to put a smile on someone's face. Just like that!

I love the Internet!

Let me first say that I love blogging. I would blog if no one read (and did for many months/years) and the fact that people do read is just gravy. Even better is when I get to meet someone out of the blue as was the case with Ms. Emily Barefoot.

Emily runs Emily Alane Photography in Raleigh. I was so excited when I received an email from her asking if I would like to have some pictures done of Oscar. I haven't had ANY professional pictures of him yet and the timing could not have been better.

Emily has been reading my blog for some time and as it turns out, we live in the same neighborhood! So when she offered to take some pictures of Oscar for free, I very happily accepted! She is trying to grow her business and I am trying to grow my blog. It's a win win! A couple weeks ago we met in a big field, put Oscar in the grass and she got clicking. We had a delightful conversation and Oscar loved sitting up, touching the grass and trying to eat it.

Today I received the much anticipated email saying that the pictures are ready. I love them! She did a great job and we had a great time making a new friend. If you need to have portraits done, be sure to check out her site.

Thanks again Emily!

Everyone loves a Haircut! Well....almost everyone...

OK I'll admit it. I am unfaithful. I can never commit to a hairdresser. I just get too antsy. I found one that I loved, then I just got bored and took forever to get another cut, so I tried out another one, who I also loved. THEN, Alter Ego, a fairly new Salon ran a promotion for a free cut for first timers. So, I decided to go. I always used to feel guilty when I would "cheat" on my hairstylist, but I can't fight it anymore. I'm a drifter.

I got basically the same cut I got after Oscar was born only this time I had her blow it out straight. So fun! I have never had a Salon blowout before and man, I had no idea my hair could be this soft! I love it, Jerry loves it and Oscar.....well, you be the judge.

I loved the salon and I am sure I will go back. Katelyn did my hair and she was super sweet, but not too talkative. I also had my eyebrows done (I am sure my puffy red lids gave me away) and the eyebrow girl also did a great job. Before you go, be sure to check out We 3 Liebs for a cool giveaway!

Another rite of passage....

BEFORE

There are usually 3 times in a woman's life that she will change her hair.

1) After a breakup
2) After she gets married
3) After she has a baby

Well, I have done the post-breakup-do plenty of times in the past. However, while satisfying, your new hotness is wasted on a bottle of wine and a box of tissues. It's just not as fun as the post-wedding do. I skipped this one because I loved my hair long at the time and Jerry did too. Plus we weren't really in the market for a stylist if you know what I mean.

Once Oscar was born it was high time for a change. I opted for #3 , the post-baby-do. Ladies and gents, I give you....Mom Hair!

AFTER!
I absolutely LOVE it! I don't know if it's visible, but it's shorter in the back than the front and as I type I am wearing a headband. I think I am in love with myself. I haven't felt this fun in a long time :-) Sad and funny how a good haircut can do that for a girl. I went with my friend Jennymac and we had a fabulous time! I LOVED her stylist and can now call her my stylist! Seriously, curlygirls, you neeeeeed to go see Brandi. She completely rocked.

We had lunch downtown after our appointments and Jerry saw me for the first time there. He had NO idea what I had planned to do and was totally stunned when he saw me. But yeah, he loves it too. And so does Oscar! It didn't even bother me that he threw up all over me in the restaurant. I think my mojo is back ;-)

Reunited and it feels so good....

Where to begin.....let's see. A while back I posted that there was a particular strip of stores on Person street that I wanted to check out. One such place was "the salon with the orange banner". For some reason I can never remember the name of the salon from the time I see it, to the time I get home about 4.3 minutes later. Go fig.

Well, I have been trying to brush up on the Raleigh blogs and came across the Raleigh Chronicle. As I was perusing the headlines I saw an ad to the right for Howard Jacobs Salon and it hit me. HEY that is the place! Oh finally! (insert happy dance here)

Little did I know what awaited me. I clicked the link and started reading about the owner/stylist Anson Howard and I thought, hmm THAT name sounds familiar....I did a little digging and GREAT ODEN'S RAVEN it was my long lost hairdresser from 5 years ago!

I started thinking about what ever happened to make me change salons and it hit me. Anson worked for another salon and that's where I started having him do my hair. Then one day he was gone! I wasn't told of where he went (I guess there is some debate over this practice) so I stuck with my salon. Well, after the only other person I wanted doing my hair moved away, I have been salon-hopping ever since. For 5 years! I contacted Anson and we set an appointment for yesterday and I couldn't be happier with my cut!

For those of you who think this is a silly post about a silly girl who needs to think about more than a good haircut, then you obviously never had your curly hair named "the beast" in high school. So, to everyone else who wants a great haircut, and a chance to support local business, check out HOWARD JACOBS Salon on Person Street! And tell them Andrea sent you !

Spotlight: Invitations!

So now that the RSVP date has passed, I am going to finally post my invitations! My brother-in-law designed them with our request of "typewriter" font and then we added the bird stamps. We used both stamps so the invitation and envelope would have different birds. We used online RSVP through ewedding.com and email. It has worked out great! We still have a few people that haven't responded, but we are contacting them and have been getting a good response.

The cards are the standard greeting card size, which worked out to 2 cards per 8.5x11 sheet. We ordered recycled cardstock and recycled A9 envelopes from Paperandmore.com. We were incredibly pleased with their service and delivery time!

You may have been able to sneak a peek in my earlier post, but here are the close-ups:

Invitation

Envelope

I love the way they turned out and the simplicity of the design was perfect for us and made the whole process go quickly!

New Store Alert!

Whether you are planning a wedding or just love awesome things, this place is hot. I was wandering around Cameron Village last week and stumbled upon.....

It is a wonderful store filled with all things Japanese and then some! They have amazing handmade papers, origami kits, book-binding accessories, stamps and vintage kimonos! They also have an amazing selection of jewelry, bath products and incense. It's so pretty! I bought some handmade paper for my rehearsal dinner invitations and some other little projects I have going. I really want to go back for some red flower candles. They all smelled heavenly!

They were a little pricey, so I only walked out with some beautiful paper... much like these:

I can't wait to finish the invitations!

Yes, i am a girl

One of my favorite things to do is get a manicure/pedicure at my favorite place, Lee Spa Nails. They are reasonably priced and very sweet. Obviously, I can't go that often, but it is usually pretty easy for me to justify at least a manicure now that I have a pretty ring to show off. A few months ago, I found the perfect "barely there" color and just had it done again yesterday. I am sure this is what I will choose for the wedding day. I just love it!

It's called, Honeymoon Sweet, by OPI. Don't let the pink-y-ness of the picture fool you! It has a wonderfully natural tone with a touch of pearl. Try it out, you won't be sorry!
