Backyard Beauty...

When I first looked at our house with the Realtor and Jerry, I noticed a single yellow rose on a dying bush in the back yard. I was immediately endeared to the place because it reminded me of the beautiful roses my grandfather grew in a house not unlike this one. I never expected that bush to make it, but here I am, a year later with not one but 3 blooms! Only one has opened so far, but I think it is just lovely.

The bed is done!

I still need to figure out a solution to the no-bedskirt decision, but that will probably just mean the purchase of a white fitted sheet for the box spring. Also still need to hang the art, but you get the idea!

Don't Ask Don't Tell.

I never think of wanting a puppy until I see a picture of one. Then all of a sudden I have delusions of running through fields with my new best friend laughing and playing together....

Today I received one of those, we found puppies can you take them (?) emails. In this case, 3 puppies and yes they were all adorable. And no, we can't take one. But if we could, me and Rocco would have a great time in that field.

Yes we would because you are SUCH a good doggie aren't you??? YES YOU ARE :-)

Wow, It's been a while!

So I don't know where I have been for the past week or so, but it has been busy! Jerry's folks weren't able to make it into town after all, which was a real bummer! They are hoping to make it in a couple months, so we will look forward to that. In the meantime, my sister and brother-in-law came through town on their way to Boston. Dean finally realized his dream of running the Boston Marathon yesterday - AND blogged live during the whole race! Check it out here.

The spare room is almost done! We got the bed put together and the walls are almost done. We just need to do a bit more painting and touch ups. I have the art planned for the walls and some other little ideas. I also got a super cute rug from Pier one for the foot of the bed that works really well with the room. I can't wait to finish it!

This weekend we finally got our vegetable garden started! This is possibly the most exciting news for me because I have always wanted a garden and have never been able to make it happen until now. And I have Jerry to thank! He is so great at doing all the logistical stuff. I am SO prone to cutting corners, and he really sticks to his guns. And honestly, it is almost always better his way! SO we built a square foot garden! It's 4'x4' with a grid and we have a LOT of stuff in there! Here is what we have planted so far and some pics!

Tomatoes, Zucchini, Squash, Brussels Sprouts, Cucumbers, Sweet Peas, Bell Peppers, Hot Peppers, Sweet Peppers, Basil, Rosemary, Oregano, Cilantro, Lavender, Stevia, and Marigolds!

Busy Week!

It's been action packed over here, between various bands, work, and getting ready for family to come in town, Jerry and I have been going strong. Today I am painting the guest room (finally!) and Jerry is recording a few songs for the Whale Watchers CD. Tomorrow we are both in the Vintage band so that means all day doing several services.

Last night I made pizza from scratch. And when I say scratch I mean dough AND sauce! It was sooo yummy! I also made bruschetta which was delightful :-) Cooking is fun!

We finally went to the farmer's market today! We got some herbs and veggies for our garden (one day soon) and some fresh veggies. We also got some free range chicken, beef and eggs! Yum! We brought Krusty but it turns out that he couldn't walk around with us - even in the outdoor area - so we took turns hangin with him!

I also found out that North Hills will be starting a Farmer's Market next week and each Saturday until September from 8am-12. I am really excited about this because it is a lot closer! I hope you are having a great weekend!

My Husband - Bee Hunter

We have a good sized back yard. In this yard is an old wooden shed. We once planned to get rid of the shed, but the logistics of such an undertaking given the location of said structure would make your head spin. Therefore, we are keeping it and once the weather is nicer we hope to repair and repaint it. For now, it is home to all of the things we want to sell at a future yard sale, our bikes and a thriving team of carpenter bees.

I had never heard of Carpenter Bees before and have since realized that they are a menacing species that should really be in the bird family rather than insect. They burrow into anything wood just like a termite and when they buzz you it's more like a fighter jet screaming by than a lowly bee. But I digress.

Jerry decided to take matters into his own hands. Since he hasn't played a whole lot of disc golf lately, he has taken to using his discs as weapons in the fight of Man vs. Bee.

And we're back!

It's raining again today but yesterday's sun gave me just enough time to finish my bed! So without further ado, here it is!

Of course I will post pictures of the whole room once it's all put together, but I couldn't resist a little sneak peek! I absolutely LOVE the bed and since I went with spray paint, the project was SO easy! I have always shied away from spray paint, but no more. I'm a pro now. And for those of you who don't prime, I was once one of you, but no more! The difference is unreal.

The other day we were watching a woodpecker outside on the telephone pole. Since I was inside and I have a terrible zoom lense, I wasn't able to get a clear shot...But I messed with what I did get and I don't know it's sortof neat...or maybe it sucks. I can't decide...your thoughts?

Rain and other updates..

So it has been raining for about 4 days now. We NEED the rain, but man if it doesn't make me sleepy. AND lazy. I just don't want to do anything! However, I have accomplished a few things in spite of my inner sloth.

I moved my dresser to a different wall in the bedroom, switched around the art and mirror and added a chair. We also added a chair to the living room. There is a big giant sale going on at Pier 1 so we got 2 of the Orbit chairs in Honey. LOVE them.

I got side-tracked on the whole bed painting thing because of the rain, but it's still first on my list as soon as we can get outside. Last night we had our weekly bible study and so the main areas got a good sweeping/vacuuming/dusting that would otherwise probably never happen. We love having people over and especially our home group folks! They are awesome :-)

The rest of the week is pretty open so hopefully we can get some more done. I am using the fact that Jerry's folks are coming in a few weeks as a little deadline to get things done. It always helps me to have a deadline. I make a game out of it.

This Friday our good friend Geoff Wood is showing off his mad Holga skills at The Morning Times. You can check out his work here. We even posed for him once way back when! Hope to see you there!

Have a great Tuesday!
