Aww!
Our community group has babies now! It's a tradition that all the boys either play music or watch youtube videos after we meet. This week was no different, except that this time, Jude got to join in on the fun!

Oh my. I have crossed over. Last night I had my first charlie-horse/leg cramp. Well actually it was at about 5:30 this morning. I stretched and then all of a sudden my left calf muscle contracted in the worst way I have ever experienced. I shot up and was breathing super heavy and saying AH AH cramp cramp cramp! Of course, my hysterics woke Jerry up who was helpless except to remind me not to try and stand up because I would fall over. This morning my leg still hurts, even after a warm bath and sort of feels like there is a rock in my calf.
I know this sort of thing happens in pregnancy, I just had no idea how bad it hurt. This made me consider some things.
A) I am now doubting my ability to cope with pain because I have never reacted like that and this was only a leg cramp
B) I need to know how to make this go away next time. Everything I tried did nothing and I just had to wait it out which was essentially like letting someone pour boiling water on me.
C) I have been eating bananas all week, which "they" say helps ward them off. Any other ideas?

One day I am up! The next I am down. I seem to be going in a daily up/down cycle of energy. I will have a good nights' sleep and then an energetic day, followed by a sub-par nights' sleep and a crappy angst-ridden day of woe. Ok maybe not WOE, but I mean would it be too much to ask to level this thing out??
Overall, I don't have too many complaints. And even the sporadic sleeping is becoming pretty easy. Thankfully, and my husband will vouch for this, I can fall asleep faster than you can say "thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere"....unfortunately, with the exciting and terrifying pregnancy dreams that persist, the sleep isn't quite as restful as the days of yore.
We also had a pretty busy weekend. Saturday was cleaning/laundry day and we went to 2 weddings. Sunday was church and more chores and we each had evening plans with our friends. It was a great weekend, but I wonder how much longer I can keep up this pace.
The great news is that I will most likely be allowed to work from home in January, so I pretty much just have to make it to the holidays. Then for the last month of pregnancy I can just lay in bed with my laptop and messy hair and it will be business as usual.
I am having a lot of fun though. Also this weekend we met with our doula (yay we picked one!) and we love her! She has already been super helpful and we will meet with her once more before the birth. This time it will be at our house so she can see how to get there. We are birthing in a hospital, but she is going to come to the house during early labor and then transfer with us when it is time to go in. Of course all of this is assuming I will have a spontaneous labor WHICH I REALLY REALLY WANT.....so here's hoping. We also decided on a birth class to take which is in November so I am excited about that. It seems so far away, but if October goes as quickly as September has, waiting will be a piece of cake. Mmm....cake...
My weight gain is going to be epic. Mark my words. So far i don't see it THAT much (I do see it) but I can safely say that I have already surpassed the recommended weight gain for an entire pregnancy. Talk about a go getter! Ugh. Let's just hope I fit through the door when it's time to get this baby out :-)
I know I know...steer clear of the impractical purchases. I am doing pretty well I would say. However, since I wear jeans on a regular basis, how could I deny my son the experience, nay the privilege of wearing such an article of clothing? I could not.
Oh it starts! We finally cleared everything out of the office so it can become the nursery! Things are sortof where they will be but there is a dresser that needs to be painted along with the little green side table. Also need to put shelves in the closet and decorate! The Circus picture will be reframed and the inspiration for the room. However, this will NOT be a circus room! I just like the colors in the poster and it is meaningful because I have had it since I was around 12 or so. Anyway, for the sake of documentation, I give you the nursery 1.1

Jerry and I always weigh ourselves in the morning and then again at night. Partly because we are sick and can't stop, and also because Jerry likes to see how much heavier he can get throughout the course of a day. It's a game!
Well, being pregnant and all, I am packing on the pounds. And if you ask me, it's happening way too fast! I am only halfway there and I definitely put on more than the suggested amount for this stage. I don't get worked up about it though because I know it is temporary. And we can joke about it. Example:
(I weighed myself after dinner last night)
Jerry: Well? WELL???
Me: UGH ###
Jerry: ALRIGHT!!!
Me: Yeah I am getting too big!
Jerry: No it's fun, just go with it! And remember, 8 ounces of that is baby!
Me: uhhh, thanks???

Today we had our Level 2 ultrasound to check on a few things a little bit more closely. It was a great appointment and it seems like everything is a-OK. We'll go back in 8 weeks to be sure. BUT the fun part is, the techs sneaked us a 3D shot of our boy! And he even gave us a thumbs up!
Next month Krusty will be 12! We'll get a cake like always and then eat it in front of him (he'll get a few licks I assure you). We'll get him a toy and play and have fun. He is a really great dog! I never had a dog so I can't really compare him to anything other than my friends' pets, but he has definitely won my heart! So far he isn't phased by all the new baby stuff that has entered the house. Hopefully it will stay that way! We envision him being wary at first, but ultimately protective of the new baby. Our family is growing!
Tomorrow is the official half way point - 20 weeks!!! It's getting more exciting by the day it seems. And I am definitely entering the nesting phase. I suppose it helps that I have all day to think about what I can do in the 2 or 3 hours of energetic time I have when I get home from work, but whatever, I am being productive!
Jerry and I moved our living room furniture around last night. It's something we have been planning to do for when the baby comes, but maybe not this soon. Well, on Monday when Community Group started back up at our house, it was clear that we needed a new arrangement! I am satisfied with the setup, but now more than ever we need a rug! So that will be something to hunt for...and I am going to have to bite the bullet and go for the 8x10. Or at least 6x9. Gulp. Rugs are expensive! But I am of the mindset that if we don't do things before the baby gets here, we will never do them. At least not until he is in school. So off we go.
I also cleared a lot out of the spare room and got things manageable in there so we can start moving more office stuff out of the nursery. Right now it's half office/half nursery so it makes it hard to do anything in either room design wise. But I am getting ahead of myself. I emptied out my cedar chest of it's MORE THAN 100 VHS Tapes and filled it with afghans and blankets that had been previously under the bed or strewn about. I sleep better knowing it is being used for its intended purpose ;-). The tapes are on the bed for us to sort through and get rid of. I am pretty sure that since we don't even own a VCR anymore, we don't have much use for my episodes of Dawson's Creek, or Jerry's entire numbered seasons of the Simpsons, both recorded from network television. So that will be cleansing.
Good things are happening. Every time we change the house around we get rid of a few more things we were clinging to unnecessarily. I always feel lighter afterward. And even though we are bringing more (and more and more) baby stuff into the house, it is slowly but surely beginning to have a place of its own, so it fits. We have been super blessed by our families giving and loaning us baby stuff, so I feel very supported and like we will be ready! I feel so blessed that our baby will come into a world full of people who already love him. It's the best gift I could ask for!
If I were to wake up tomorrow morning in this place, I will think I have died and gone to heaven. Of course my own house could never be all white, but for heaven.....

However, I can't stop reading about them. No matter what I say, 50% of you will disagree so I won't say anything because I don't want to upset anyone.
But just know that it's hard. So hard. Instead, how about a kitten :-)
We had a wonderful time in NYC! I will post pictures when I get a chance but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the name suggestions! We don't have a finalized name yet, but we are getting closer :-).
New York was great and it was so nice to get away and just enjoy a different place and each other. We walked and walked and ate and shopped. It was great! I couldn't have asked for a better anniversary! Now, on to year two!
We did pick up a few "boy" things while we were there and now that we know, I am super ready to get on the nursery!!! Jerry started cleaning in the office (nursery) last night and I am hoping to get some things organized this week. I have 2 projects to do also. I need to paint a dresser and an end table. Both should be fairly quick and easy other than the sanding part. And don't worry, I'll be outside with a mask on and Jerry will do the stinky stuff (he doesn't know that yet)....
We also need to put shelves in both the nursery and guest room/new office closets. The house came with one clothing bar in each closet but no shelves so now is the time. So on top of all the cleaning and organizing, we have our work cut out for us! Kinda scary how the list goes on and on when next week is the half way point! What??!! Thankfully, our families have been really helpful so we have a lot of the bigger items already (crib, changing table, swing, pack'n'play) so we just need to get it straight. But that's the fun part!
We also went to ikea in Brooklyn and grabbed a high chair and a nursing/bouncing chair for me. Thanks to Nicole and Oliver for hauling those back for us! We really appreciate it!
Right now we are accumulating stuff so that requires purging. We try to live by the one in one out rule, which is proving to be more difficult at the moment, but I think we will manage. So, that's pretty much the update! Have a great week everyone!
