Mmm...Chicken

Last night we ate the last of our farmer's market free range chicken. Man it's really yummy! We ran out of eggs days ago, but I haven't had the time to go back just yet. There is such a difference between farm/free raised eggs (and meat) and that of the factory variety. SO, this weekend, we are taking the Henside The Beltline Chicken Tour! Basically it's like a tour of homes for yardbirds! All over the city, families are raising their own back-yard chickens for use of their eggs and as pets. And we are about to join the flock! (sorry I couldn't resist)

Saturday we will go around and check out the different setup options for raising chickens and see what will work best for us. Then at the beginning of June there is a short class to explain the details. We will probably just get two laying hens for now. It's a win win because not only do we get yummy eggs, we also get free fertilizer for our veggies!

Jerry has already been researching chicken tractors and I am trying to come up with some names for our lovely birds. I'll keep you posted on how things progress! It's so exciting!

I want chickens! I've been reading all through that website. I have to wait until we get into a new house though. You know that if you get chickens, mom is SO going to do it too!

I wish I could go on the tour, but I have to work Saturday. From the Web site, it looks like there's some pretty sweet setups. Hope your chicken raising adventures work out.

I'll buy some eggs from you when you have spare ones!
