The first of many....

Noticing that Oscar was starting to kick more and more, we decided to get him a Johnny Jump Up. So far, he just likes to sit up and not so much jump. But it's a different vantage point than the swing or bouncy seat and is a little more comfortable than the Bumbo, so he'll take it. Yes, I imagine him sitting there thinking, my this is a lovely little swing (in the voice of Stewie from The Family Guy)
Before working on this video, I had to assemble said new toy. You would think something as simple as this would be simple to assemble. But if you really thought that 1) you clearly don't have children and/or 2) have never tried to put together anything resembling a toy or plaything. It's as if Fisher Price, Playskool, and Hasbro got together at one of their TOP SECRET Illuminati meetings and said, Ok Tom Hanks, here is a simple toy, how complicated can we make it? Tom Hanks chuckled and said, just leave it to me. He then flew to Rome, found the secret code, drank from the Holy Grail and stopped Global Warming. Oops, sorry. Hope you already knew the end....

So as I am looking at the excruciatingly detailed assembly instructions, which consist of flaps and straps A-D, bars, buttons and hooks, I decided they didn't make sense at all. But I powered through. Once I figured out the straps, I inserted the support bars which are supposed to lock into each other. Easier said than done of course. It's one of those little buttonhole mechanisms that require you to hold down the button while pushing one bar inside the other, releasing the button and therefore locking it into place. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO WITHOUT INJURY. That is what they should have written in RED on the instructions. Do you hear me Tom Hanks?

I give you exhibit A, my thumb after being pinched in the jaws of the Johnny Jump Up.

And exhibit B, my blood forever stained on Oscar's beloved toy.

Of course his joy makes it all worthwhile and I lived to see another day so I'll move on. I can only imagine what will happen when he decides he needs a bike.
